Who said cyclists never plan? The Great Balkini does, and in this installment
he tells you how to ride smarter, not harder. Sure you like to just hop on and
ride into the great blue yonder, but think about it. Could you, perhaps, get more
out of that trip with a few special tips?
Attention lighthouse lovers: Word has just gone out that this lighthouse will
soon be transferred to the most suitable new owner under the National Historic
Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000. The Fairfield Historical Society has expressed
interest in working to preserve the structure.
You’re not a kid anymore, but the weather is calling you back to your bicycle.
Before you ride – read. The Great Balkini offers these very basic biking bits
of wisdom for recreational cyclists.
You've either discovered this one yourself, or it is a total surprise. One great
way to "discover" the bridge is to start your walk from York Village and bear
right as the road bears left to hug the coast. Betteryet, walk from Old York Village
down the side street to the Marshall Store. Slip into the woody area just before
the store and you'll find the bridge on the other side.
Part two of our stroll between Kittery's two beaches, divided only by a spit
of grassland that juts out into the Atlantic. THis spot made it into the newspapers
back in the 80s when nudes were spotted sunning on the rocky coast. The nudes,
we think are gone, but the dogs have taken their place. We've not seen a place
like it -- a tiny piece of land between two curved beaches.

Why not view this spectacular sight by bike? The lighthouse can be easily viewed
from the 14.5 mile long East Bay Bicycle Path that borders the Providence River.
The path is open to walkers as well as bikers.
When you were young, you rode your bike with impunity. It was your friend, your
car, your freedom, your life. So what happened? Something changed, and it was
not the bicycle. The Great Balkini, now officially a senior citizen, wants to
help you put things right between you and your bike again. He’ll be back every
two weeks to check, so listen to your elders.
This city recereation area offers a quick local spot for residents to walk in the woods along the river close to home. Maintained by the Dover Recreational Dept. it is most scenic when the sun is either high or low. A good spot to bring the kids for a picnic with grassy area and deep forests in one spot.
