![]() Born in South Berwick, Maine in 1794, Ichabod Goodwin became one of Portsmouth's most influential men in the 19th century. He was the state's first Civil War governor, and president of two banks, the Portsmouth Bridge Company, Portsmouth Steam Factory, Portsmouth Gas Company and, for 20 years, the Eastern Railroad.
