Sir William Pepperrell

The second William Pepperrell, brining an army of 3,000 men all the way to Nova Scotia, defeated the French at Louisburg in the mid 1700s. One of the richest men in the colonies, the Pepperrell family estate stretched the first 30 miles of Maine's coast. Of the families mansions, only the Lady Pepperrell House remains today on Kittery Point.
