Anne Scheer’s painting Fiddle Parade is one of more than 20 of her works to be showcased in the TOYS! exhibit in Gallery 6THRU MARCH 1, 2013

Gallery 6 at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is taking a playful turn this winter with a new exhibit called TOYS! From December 1, 2012 – March 1, 2013, the walls of Gallery 6 will feature lively and colorful oil paintings by artist Anne Scheer celebrating play with images of classic toys. Each of her paintings tells a unique story with the juxtaposition of different objects from days gone by. (Continued below)

Accompanying the paintings will be some of the iconic childhood toys of the last several decades. Often thought of as objects just for fun, toys say a great deal about the changing values and ideas of American culture through the years. From Erector sets and Tinker Toys to Silly Putty, Slinkies and yoyos, this exhibit is bound to spark remembrances among parents and grandparents, and curiosity from younger visitors. Many stories will likely be shared as different generations tour the gallery space together.

The TOYS! exhibit can be viewed in Gallery 6 during regular business hours at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire: Tuesday – Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday noon – 5 pm. No admission fee is required to view the gallery only. Regular admission applies for families who wish to also explore the rest of the museum.
