It’s the story that changed the world: Mitch Albom’s all-time best-selling memoir of life, death, love and joy. And now you can experience it on stage through November 20, presented by the same company that brought you LOVE SONG and the critically acclaimed LAMPLIGHT DIALOGUES at Strawbery Banke Museum. (Continued below)
Sixteen years after graduating from college, career-driven journalist Mitch Albom turns on a television news program to learn that his favorite professor, Morrie Schwartz, has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a debilitating and fatal illness known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Prompted by his guilt over losing touch, Mitch decides to reconnect with Morrie. But what was meant to be a single visit becomes a weekly pilgrimage, a final class in the most important subject there is: life.
“Mitch Albom has made a career of talking about personal relationships, of daring to risk being labeled “sentimental” for expressing the simplest profundities and most intimate truths,” says Director Kent Stephens. Albom’s memoir was adapted for the stage by playwright Jeffrey Hatcher, known for his witty, moving stories such as THREE VIEWINGS, which was presented by Kent Stephens’ STAGE FORCE (formerly Harbor Light Stage) in 2008. The collaboration between Albom and Hatcher resulted in a show which has been called “crisper, cleverer and more palatable” than the book. “This is a play that might — incredibly, just might — change your life,” says John Simon of New York Magazine. The STAGE FORCE production stars CJ Lewis as Mitch and Stephen D’Ambrose as Morrie.
