Originally produced at Broadway's Plymouth Theater in 1942, play was most recently revived in 1986. Written by Thornton Wilder, best known for his classic play "Our Town," the show won critical and controversial acclaim. When asked to describe “The Skin of our Teeth,” Director Ed Hinton remarked “The Skin of Our Teeth is a wacky tale of the struggle of man from the ice age, through the great flood, wars, pestilence, fire, famine, and fatigue. The story is told through the extraordinary Antrobus family as they persevere through the ages. Their story intertwines heroes and buffoons, good and evil, the slapstick and the touchingly serious, and even a dinosaur or two.” “The Skin of Our Teeth” stands as a testament to humanity and our quest survive, to learn, and to grow. About Generic Theater: Before the Players Ring, before Seacoast Rep, Generic Theater was Portsmouth's only amateur theater troupe, started by a happy combination of writers, teachers, painters, and waiter-types, with a co-op household for an anchor. They stuck to it despite life changes, economic duress, and bad weather. Amazingly, a lot of the early members are still taking part thirty years later! About the Players’ Ring: The Players’ Ring is a non-profit theater that provides an intimate setting for local theater companies producing both published and original scripts. It encourages the production of plays written by local writers in the greater Portsmouth region and hosts an annual playwright competition each spring.
