Summer Art Installations Downtown
Art-Speak, the City of Portsmouth’s Cultural Commission, is pleased to announce the schedule for Overnight Art 2008 installations. Overnight Art 2008 is a public art competition resulting in a summer-long scattered site exhibit of outdoor art in downtown Portsmouth.
The project is intended to showcase the talents of artists working in the seacoast area, and also to highlight the important role public art plays in our communities by enhancing our environment, sparking our imaginations, generating conversation, and stimulating our minds.
The six art installations for Overnight Art will take place over a two-week period from May 12th through May 23rd. All installations will begin at approximately 10:00AM. Please join us in celebrating the outstanding talent and creativity of our local artists.
Monday, May 12, Nathan Walker’s Giant Ant will be installed in the flower bed in Market Square.
Wednesday, May 14th, Jeanne Givens History in Liquid Motion will be installed at the Memorial Bridge Park.
Friday, May 16th, Jason Probert’s Umwelt Bench #5 will be installed in Prescott Park.
Monday, May 19th, Jamie Calderwood’s Inside/Out sculpture will be installed at the alley next to 16 Congress Street.
Wednesday, May21 Susan Schwake’s Dialog banner will be installed at the Hanover Street Parking Garage.
Friday, May 23, Roger Goldenberg’s Bookmarks for the Big Reader will be installed at the Portsmouth Public Library on Parrott Avenue.
