Midsummer Night Dream at UNH

"The course of true love never did run smooth." But thanks to that cheeky imp Puck and his magic love-juice, the summer woods, and the UNH Johnson Theatre, are alive with the sounds of courtship. "Dream" remains a favorite of young and old alike. (Click above to continue)
MARK YOUR CALENDAR November 4-7, 2009 Durham, NH
Set in a wooded summer night in Athens, the play takes audiences on a fantasy ride where love triangles, mistaken identity and fairy magic mingle with giant egos and a band of merry players. Poor Hermia loves Lysander but he loves Helena. Helena loves Demetrius, but he loves Hermia. Fairy King Oberon loves fairy Queen Titania, but plays a trick on her- with beastly consequences.
This playful production features a playground theme complete with a slide, monkey bars and giant swing on stage for the characters to play on throughout the performance.
"A Midsummer Night’s Dream" is presented by the UNH Department of Theatre & Dance. Since 1923, UNH has produced classic, contemporary, youth drama and original theatrical works for the greater Durham community. This production is directed by Professor David Richman, who has mounted more than thirty classic pieces on UNH stages.
Professor Richman, who is blind, shares his vast knowledge and passion for Shakespeare with his students, who eagerly seek out opportunities to work with him. Relying on an assistant director to help him cast and block the actors, Richman helps modern actors understand the raw human emotion embedded in each character of a timeless work.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs November 4-7 at 7:00 p.m. and November 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the UNH Johnson Theatre. A special school group matinee performance for grades 7-12 is scheduled for November 6 at 10:00 a.m. School group tickets are $7.00. School groups must make reservations in advance. More info at 603.862.2150.
For general tickets, contact the MUB ticket office (Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 4:00pm) at 603-862-2290. You may also purchase tickets at
Tickets are $10.50 for seniors, UNH ID holders; and groups of 15 or more and $12.50 for general admission. The UNH Theatre Box Office opens one hour prior to curtain in the lobby at the Paul Creative Arts Center.
