They’re back. After 20 years the Blue Angels have returned to the former Pease Air Force Base in Newington, NH. Expect big crowds. Expect big thrills. The promoters tell us that, not only is the show exciting, but it is cost effective family entertainment August 38 & 29. (See info below with updated schedule and visitor notes)

THIS JUST IN: What Not to Bring to Air Show

Editor’s Note: This is a press release from the company hired to promote the show and was not written by us. See what you think of their "affordable" argument. We’ll be there either way.

With the United States Navy Blue Angels headlining the show and perfect weather forecast, the 2010 Boston-Portsmouth Air Show is bound to be the highlight of the summer for local families. But kids in particular may find much to like at this year’s show. The show will take to the skies Saturday, August 28, and Sunday, August 29 at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. In addition to the performances and static displays, there are many opportunities and activities for kids and families.

The show will feature a Kidz Zone area that has many exciting, kid friendly activities including inflatables such as an aircraft carrier slide, a dual lane slide, Military Madness, an obstacle course, two bounce houses, a combo unit, and a bungee trampoline. In addition to the Kidz Zone, there will be an M-4 aircraft simulator on the grounds as well as a Blue Angels cockpit photo booth so that kids are sure to remember their experience at the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show.

The air show will also be hosting more than 60 exhibitors on-site, many of which have hands-on, interactive games and displays that will engage both kids and adults, making the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show the perfect family activity in New England this weekend.

Although the show requires admission for entry, the cost (tickets and lunch) to attend the air show for a family of four would be about $100 to be entertained by world class performers for seven plus hours (less than $14 per hour). Dollar for dollar this incredible value stacks up well when compared to other local entertainment options. Compare that to the cost to take a family of four to other area entertainment venues:

Professional football game (cheapest ticket $65, about $300 for a family of four for three hours of entertainment, $75 per hour)

Professional baseball game ($30 grandstand seat, more than $150 for a family of four for three hours of entertainment, more than $50 per hour)

Major motorsports event (cheapest ticket $49, about $240 for a family of four for four hours of entertainment, more than $59 per hour)

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headlines a blockbuster lineup that also includes the Brazilian Air Force Smoke Squadron, the United States Army Golden Knights, the United States Navy F-18 Super Hornet Demo Team, The United States Air Force F-15 & F-16 Demo Teams, Sean D. Tucker, Mike Goulian, John Klatt, Rob Holland and the B-25 "Panchito." General Admission tickets remain on sale at the official web site. All premium seating has been sold out.
