Don’t it make your brown eyes blue thinking about holidays with pop singer Crystal Gayle? She’ll be singing to you live in Rochester, direct from the coal mines of Kentucy. Did you know she was Loretta Lynn’s little sister? Neither did we until we rtead the following press release from ROH. (Click for more)
MARK YOUR CALENDAR December 9 Rochester, NH
Crystal Gayle’s warm personality, extraordinary voice and enchanting beauty lights up the stage in A Crystal Christmas at the Rochester Opera House on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 8:00 PM. Crystal, honored eight times as Country Female Vocalist of the Year, especially enjoys performing her Christmas show and getting into the Christmas spirit with her audience. Sister, Peggy Sue, joins Crystal on stage for duets, comedy and family recollections. Share an evening with a special star, the graceful Crystal Gayle.
Crystal Gayle, the youngest of eight children, grew up in the coal mining town of Paintsville, Kentucky. Her unique style and creative personality developed while traveling with her big sister, Loretta Lynn. Crystal signed her first recording contract while still in school. Her debut single I’ve Cried (The Blue Right Out of My Eyes) was written by Loretta and reached the Top 25 on the national country music charts. Her earliest albums yielded several smash singles including her first #1 hit I’ll Get Over You, which foreshadowed the successful future of the beautiful and talented country girl.
The list of awards and achievements in the career of Crystal Gayle is as long as it is diverse. Crystal, the first female country artist to achieve platinum status, has almost three dozen hit records, several gold albums, and the platinum album When I Dream, which produced the international Grammy winning hit Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. Crystal released two inspirational albums; the Grammy nominated Someday and the gospel inspired He is Beautiful.
Crystal’s two most recent albums are both departures from her country heritage. She produced and recorded Crystal Gayle Sings the Heart & Soul of Hoagy Carmichael a tribute album to the great composer Hoagy Carmichael on the 100th anniversary of his birth, which highlights the immortal Stardust. She also recorded a collection of children’s lullabies In My Arms, after recording the duet Songs with Sesame Street’s Big Bird.
Crystal Gayle has entertained throughout the world, has hosted many TV specials and continues to tour internationally. The Rochester Opera House is pleased to welcome this enchanting artist back to our stage. Light up your holiday season with A Crystal Christmas sponsored in part by Eastern Propane & Oil, L. Wynn Sound, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Service Credit Union and Radio Station WOKQ. Reserve tickets online or call the box office (603) 335-1992 or stop by M/W/F from 10-5 and before the show. The Rochester Opera House is located in City Hall, 31 Wakefield Street, Rochester NH. The season continues with Strafford Wind Symphony on 12/12/09 and A Christmas Carol on 12/18-20/09
