2011-2012 SCHEDULE

Seacoast Eat Local will host 12 winter farmers’ markets from November 2011 – April 2012. Markets are hosted at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford and at Exeter High School in Exeter.  In addition to one stop shopping for delicious and local foods of every type and variety, we are please to announce that we are now able to accept SNAP/EBT (food stamps) at the winter markets. See listings and locations for 10am-2pm markets. The details of Maine's only successful elephant hunt and the consequences of this sad affair will be the subject of a lecture 7:30 pm Thursday, November 17 at Berwick Academy's Jeppesen Science Center on Academy Street. The talk, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Old Berwick Historical Society. Refreshments will be served by volunteers. (See details below)

The third annual Starry Night, hosted by the nonprofit Star Island Corp., is proud to celebrate the tradition and legacy of Seacoast craftsmanship when the event returns to the Discover Portsmouth Center on Nov. 19. Participants include Banks Gallery, RAIN, local artisans on display at the gala fund-raiser. (See details below)

RUNS TO JAN 13, 2012

The “Early Winter ‘11 Exhibition” at The Gallery at 100 Market will feature biomorphic abstract expressionism to photo-realism, and a painting by a renowned sculpture and stills from music video. It includes professional who have practiced for decades on the seacoast exhibiting alongside emerging artists. The exhibit at 100 Market St. Portsmouth runs through January 13. (Continued below)

EXHIBIT THRU DEC 16, 2011

An expansive collection of pop-up books is now on display at the University of New Hampshire Museum. The Carel Chapman Movable Book Collection will be on exhibit until Dec. 16, 2011. he museum is located on level one in the Dimond Library. (Continued belwo)

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

South Berwick, MAine: A plate identical to ones used in South Berwick in the 1600s will be offered at the Lighting Up Ball’s silent auction on Saturday, November 5. The only other copy in existence is on display at the Counting House Museum. The event supports the society's museum as well as programs of the Old Berwick Historical Society. This unique pair of plates were inspired by authentic items discovered by archaeologists during a 10-year dig in the South Berwick area. (Continued below with photos)
