Trading Post introduces Segway Ride Park

segway at Trading PostHere’s a strange one. The Segway, as we in NH all know, was created by Dean Kamen and they are produced right here in Bedford. You can see an early one in the NH Historical Society. Museum But we’re not all riding them as predicted, although the Mall Cop is. Now a White Mountain tourist haven has come up with a way to mix Segways with touring the Granite State. Submitted for your approval, from the Twilight Zone. (Continued below)

Lincoln, NH - Construction is underway at Clark’s Trading Post for a First in the Nation, dedicated Segway Ride at the well known family entertainment facility in Lincoln, NH., "Wolfie’s White Mountain Wheeli’n" ride features over 450 feet of attractively laid out and landscaped track together with a training area where guests (subject to height/weight limits) will have the opportunity to try out the exciting Segway I2 Human Transporter under the watchful training of Segway qualified instructors.

YUP, the place with the bears at it again

Having completed the brief but thorough training and wearing a mandatory helmet, qualified guests will have the opportunity to "solo" out along the prepared trails for a four – five minute excursion. The ride will operate continuously throughout the day and is included with the general admission price. For most folks, this will be the first opportunity they may have had to get up close to a Segway and to have the chance to try one out is a really exciting addition to the Clark’s Trading Post experience.

Having wet their appetite for two wheeled self-balancing "gliding" as "seggers" like to call it, guests (15 years and up) will be able to sign up and take a 45 minute "Segway Safari" guided tour to "Wolfman’s Territory". This tour utilizes the radical "off-road" Segway X2’s complete with knobby tires and departs the "Segway Station" within the Trading Post grounds, taking a circuitous route behind the scenes out of the park and briefly onto the streets of Lincoln before plunging into the woods and trails of "Wolfman’s Territory".

This 45 minute excursion of 6 to 10 riders, will include a confrontation with the legendary curmudgeon of the woods and a narrated tour of his domain with stops at his "Unobtainium" mine and other sites usually only seen from the comfort and security of the White Mountain Central Railroad steam train. The tour costs $25 per person and requires each participant to sign a release, participate in the training session and wear a helmet.

"We are excited to team up with Segway of Northern New England in Concord, NH on this project and are working hard to train our staff and even Echo the bear, to operate the new Segways" said Maureen Clark, head bear keeper at Clark’s Trading Post.

"Echo took to her Segway right away and just needs some practice to perfect her technique so she can ride it in the Bear Show". "They really are so easy to ride that even a Bear can do it", said Maureen, although she quickly adds, "Bears are really smart anyway and are capable of all kinds of things both here and in the wild".

Segways are built right here in Bedford, NH making for a most appropriate in-state connection. Look for the new Segway ride and Segway Safari tours to begin operating at Clark’s Trading Post in late June and prepare yourself for an exciting experience with the newest form of wheeled transportation right alongside our authentic wood-fired, steam powered train – what a contrast!
