Stage Force Tackles Last Session of Freud

Sigmund freudMARK YOUR CALENDAR

It is unlikely that Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, ever met devout Anglican scholar and writer C. S. Lewis, but you'll wish he had after STAGE FORCE's play reading of Freud's Last Session, a passionate, challenging, and ultimately human imagining of an encounter between two of the greatest minds of the 20th century. (Click title to read more)

As the radio crackles in the background with news of the German invasion of Poland and the outbreak of a war that will tear Europe apart, Lewis is summoned to Freud's office to wrangle over some of the most powerful and dangerous questions in life. Does God exist? What is the true nature of human sexuality? How can a man of faith explain war and suffering? Are science and faith ultimately incompatible?

Playwright Mark St. Germain brilliantly depicts Freud in his last weeks – 83 years old, ferociously brilliant and consumed with pain from late-stage oral cancer. Lewis - young, idealistic, and compassionate – provides a perfect foil in this witty, though-provoking battle of minds.

STAGE FORCE will present a reading of Freud's Last Session at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 6. The event will feature Joel Colodner and CJ Lewis, with Kent Stephens as the "Voice of the BBC".

The Play Reading Series is sponsored by Kennebunk Savings Bank and Jumpin’ Jays Fish Café, with additional support from Warren’s Lobster House.  The series is made possible through a generous grant from the Fuller Foundation.
