On Sunday, December 29, 3S Artspace will present PechaKucha Night #17, “Home for the Holidays” at the Portsmouth Gas Light Company. Hot off the heels of the holiday season, the theme for the night seeks to capture the complicated nature of holiday gatherings and the stories that go along with it. 3S Artspace is looking for presenters who are willing to raid their frayed photo albums, scan old Polaroid's, and share a favorite holiday story – whether it’s good, bad, or ugly – in the traditional PechaKucha format (20 slides, 20 seconds).

“For PK17, we want to put a different lens on the holiday season, and maintain the curious and thought-provoking nature that makes PechaKucha so unique” says Celeste Ladd, Project Manager and Development Associate for 3S Artspace. “We all have a holiday story or two that may make us smile, cringe, or laugh – one of the great things about PK nights is that they provide a space for these images, stories, and ideas to be shared. The holidays are generally a time when lots of memories are made and photographs snapped – some you may cherish or want to forget – either way, there’s a story within them and we want to hear it.”

The Portsmouth Gas Light Company will host the event in its third floor nightclub space. Doors open at 7pm and presentations begin at7:30pm. The gathering is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted. PechaKucha Night is sponsored by 3S Artspace, Klein Dytham Architecture, Calypso Communications, and the Portsmouth Gas Light Company.

PechaKucha begin in February of 2003 in Tokyo as an event for young architects to meet, network, and show their work in public. The presentation format was devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture. Since that time, PK Nights have migrated to hundreds of cities around the world. PechaKucha (meaning the sound of chit-chat in Japanese) has brought Seacoast people together under a simple premise of sharing concepts, inspirations, and motivations through a creative, fun conversation with 20 presentation slides, giving each slide no more than 20 seconds.
