Oyster River Players brings Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical “Cinderella” to life directed by Kelly Eggers and performed at the historical Exeter Town Hall. “Cinderella is a story about the strength of kindness, goodness and faith in yourself” Kelly Eggers explains.  Elizabeth Henry a sophomore at Portsmouth Christian Academy in Dover plays Cinderella describes how she relates to her part, “Cinderella is sweet and kind but she has an adventurous sparkle in her eye”, she continues, “playing her is challenging because she always maintains an elegant and princess-like presence even in difficult circumstances”.

Johannah Deziel a 5th grader at Cornerstone School in Stratham, who plays stepsister Charity shares the fun in playing a ‘spoiled’ stepsister, “It does push me out of my comfort zone, she can be pretty mean, but the (stepsisters) grow, they end up being nice in the end”.  Haley Dunning, a senior at Oyster River High School gives her take on the role as the eldest stepsister, “It’s a comedic role; they are wicked yes, but in a silly and comical way.”

“The story was written in a time where being a princess was the ultimate opportunity. Sort of like an education. Today Cinderella would be reaching for a Harvard Education”, Eggers says with a wink. “In this tale the fairy godmother presents a helping hand”, she explains, “Cinderella is faithful and loyal throughout and her good spirit allows her to be prepared to grab that opportunity when it comes along”.

The timeless tale includes elegant costumes and dancing intertwined with beautifully written songs. It will bring audiences of all ages along the journey to happily ever after.
