PORTSMOUTH, NH - More than a dozen Seacoast restaurants have registered to participate and both the Judge's Choice and People's Choice categories carry prizes of $2,500 advertising packages from event co-sponsors WOKQ and Taste of the Seacoast magazine.

Each year, more than 4,000 residents and tourists attend the Chowder Festival, helping Prescott Park Arts Festival to kick-off the summer season and this year's celebration again promises to be a festive, tasty, and successful launch.

Participating restaurants include the 2009 Judge's Choice Winner River House Restaurant, Jumpin' Jay's Fish Café, Portsmouth Brewery, Bob's Clam Hut, Saunders at Rye, Newick's Lobster House, The Old Salt Restaurant, Madeleine's Café, Fresh Local, Sander's Fish Market, Robert's Maine Grill, Hagan's Grill, and more. The Judge's Choice will be conducted by Taste of the Seacoast Magazine, chef Duncan Boyd, and celebrity food critic Rachel Forrest.

Chowder lovers across the region have made this event a yearly tradition, and area restaurants take the opportunity to offer up their most prized chowder recipe, as well as using the occasion to test out new concoctions.

"This event is a superb kick-off to our season," says Ben Anderson, Executive Director, "The Seacoast is full of incredible restaurants and it's a great chance to enjoy some exceptional chowder. It's always a lot of fun trying to figure out which one is your favorite."

Coinciding with the Chowder Festival is the Piscataqua Waterfront Festival, presented by Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden and The Gundalow Company, including free museum house and Gundalow tours, and sea shanties. Additionally, to celebrate 100 years, Historic New England will open all thirty-six of their historic sites for free.

Since 1974, Prescott Park Arts Festival has successfully reached over 3.5 million people through more than 10,000 music, theater, dance and art productions offered at no fixed admission on the banks of the Piscataqua River. The 36th season will feature the presentation of Peter Pan as the festival's signature musical production, as well as a variety of international artists as part of the River House Restaurant Concert Series and various music festivals.

Located on 3.5 acres in beautiful downtown Portsmouth, Prescott Park Arts Festival is considered to be a gem of the Seacoast and introduces many residents to their first experience with a live performance.
