3S Artspace, a new New Hampshire nonprofit organization, has announced plans to establish a 300-person capacity flexible live performance venue, a large non-commercial art gallery, and a farm-to-table restaurant in downtown Portsmouth, NH. Slated to open in late 2011, current plans for the venue call for the organization to occupy the first floor of the “Fermentation Building”, one of the currently vacant and soon-to-be-renovated historic Frank Jones Brewery buildings, located on Jewell Court, just off Islington Street in downtown Portsmouth. Led by co-founders Chris Greiner and John Gayle, this multifaceted venue will address the Seacoast’s longstanding need for a midsize performance space, with a capacity between the clubs and large venues; create a non-commercial venue for emerging visual artists; and establish a central gathering space for the community — sustaining and bolstering the arts, culture and economy of the Seacoast for generations to come.

"3S Artspace began as the germ of an idea in our minds more than three years ago,” explains company founder Chris Greiner. “The idea is to create for the Seacoast the type of creative, cutting-edge, and accessible gathering space in our community that would establish for the region, a multi-disciplinary destination arts venue which would bring an urban experience to a smaller city.”

“3S will expand on the Seacoast’s venerable reputation as a rich resource of high-quality arts and culture in northern New England,” he says, “establishing a bold new legacy for lovers of arts and culture for Seacoast residents and visitors from outside the region.”

About 3S Artspace Mission: 3S Artspace, a nonprofit organization, is multidisciplinary arts organization comprised of three spaces—a performance space, art gallery and restaurant—that presents and supports contemporary artists and their work in order to stimulate the artistic community and creatively engage and educate the community at large.Vision:

Through diverse, high-quality programming across multiple media, 3S Artspace will present on its stage and in its gallery, nationally and internationally recognized artists to the Seacoast community, as well as the work of local and regional artists, with a particular focus on emerging, innovative, and/or unconventional arts. 3S will be committed to presenting a broad spectrum of events that will be both accessible and affordable to the widest possible audience. Beyond the presentation of art, 3S aspires to be a vital and central gathering place in the Seacoast community: the restaurant at 3S will be the beating heart of the organization, providing artists and others affordable creative fare, as well as opportunities for professional development, networking, and the exchange and discussion of ideas.
