HISTORY NEWS
January 2010 – The nonprofit Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse are determined to paint the hsitoric metal New Castle landmark in 2010. The longer it's put off, they agree, the bigger the job will be. The paint is starting to flake off in big pieces, and the rust is spreading. It's essential to stay on top of maintenance in such a harsh marine environment. (Continued below)
According to SeacoastNH.com’s "Lighthouse Guy" Jeremy D’Entremont, "We have some fundraising events planned for later in the spring and summer. We're also starting a new effort to look for support in the local business community. If you're a business owner, please consider becoming a Business Partner. Mmemberships begin at $100."
All Business Partners will be mentioned on the group’s web site, in their newsletter, and in their program and press releases for the rededication event planned. Donors of $500 or more will be featured on a banner displayed at the rededication event. In addition, employees of the Business Partners and their families are invited to visit the lighthouse for a private group tour. The Friends are happy to meet with you if you'd like to discuss additional ways you can work together.
People love lighthouses, and they love businesses that help lighthouses! If you know of any local businesses that might be interested in supporting the preservation of one of the New Hampshire Seacoast's most beautiful and historic structures, please let us know.
FPHL is also looking for businesses to sponsor a "DessertFest" event we're planning for April 17 at the Kittery Lions Club. They sincerely appreciate your support. If you have friends who love lighthouses, be sure to let them know about this volunteer organization that keeps this 19th century landmakr standing.
