Boys outside orphanage, POrtsmouth, NH / SeacoastNH.comStrawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #179

Built for a wealthy merchant in 1762, the Chase House was the first building restored by Strawbery Banke in 1965. From 1882 until World War I, however, it served as an orphanage. This undated photo shows two boys by the ornate back door on Washington Street while a breeze wafts through an open window.
