SeacoastNH.com Presents Historic Portsmouth #335
Do you have Portsmouth High School yearbooks from 1947 or earlier? The History Room at the Portsmouth Public Library is looking to complete its collection. Currently the library has the entire series of yearbooks from 1948 to the present and it was assumed these were the earliest bound volumes. (Continued below)
But research indicates that a copy from 1947 also exists. A single copy from 1918 has been spotted. Special Collections librarian Nicole Cloutier (call her at 603-427-1540) is hoping to solve the mystery. How many bound Portsmouth yearbooks exist from 1918 to1947, or earlier? And if they were published, where have they gone? Do you have copies to donate to the library’s permanent collection? The high school photos shown above were collected during the Puddle Dock Reunion at Strawbery Banke Museum many years ago. The captions read (left to right) Bumpsy and Bernice Orosky posing in cap and down, and the poodle-skirt posers are Sandra McKenzie, Priscilla Larsen, and Nancy Thurber. The bonus photo at the bottom shows Pudde Dock girls preparing for the first day of junior high school. (Courtesy Strawbery Banke Museum with thanks to Robert Pecunies)
