Muriel Gurdon Seabury Howells was born in New York in 1910, but summered in Portsmouth, NH as a child and later in Kittery Point. Starting in 1956 Howells worked behind the scenes to convince Portsmouth officials that destroying historic buildings was a bad idea. (See more below)
