Henderson's PointStrawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #4

On July 22, 1905 Henderson’s Point blew up. Engineers used 50 tons of dynamite to remove a 540-foot spit of land known locally as "Pull-and-be-Damned-Point".. The largest explosion to that date in world history removed a dangerous point of navigation in Portsmouth Harbor. A large crowd gathered to witness the event while others, fearing disaster, quickly got out of town.
