Many of these Victorian images were taken by Lafayette V. Newell (1833 – 1914) and preserved in this studio by his son John William Newell (1867 – 1931). The collection was acquired by Charles H. "Cappy" Stewart, an antiques dealer and owner of a Water Street brother. Navy Yard welder and historian Garland Patch obtained rare negatives from Stewart and sold a portion of his collection to Strawbery Banke in 1970.
