John Sherburn HouseStrawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #7

So many colonial homes survive in Portsmouth that we forget how many we’ve lost. The Judge John Sherburne House stood near the corner of Daniel and Bow streets until it was torn down in 1924. The original owner served under King George around the time the house was likely built in 1760. The building later became a boarding house for sailors. The cupola at the top is reminiscent of the one on the building next door – the Warner House – that still stands today.
