Cupola atop Daniel Street High School / Strawbery Banke Archive
Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #62

Built on Daniel Street in 1858, the "new" high school was progressive in educating both boys and girls in the same building. Created to last a century, the school was overcrowded by 1903 and replaced by another building that then became the city library. In true Portsmouth fashion this Daniel Street building was recycled into the City Hall, which has since moved to the former hospital building.
