Star Island Names New Director

Rowing from Star Island / SeacoastNH.comISLES OF SHOALS

The Isles of Shoals are largely privately owned. We visit them thanks to the generosity of the owners. Star Island Corporation owns Star and Appledore and has dedicated the use of the islands largely to educational programs for the last century. Shoalers have discovered that the SIC executive director sets the tone and often adapts the policies of Star conference programs at the Oceanic Hotel. Amy Lockwood is the latest director.

Star Island Corporation Names Amy Lockwood
as New Executive Director

Amy Lockwood has been named Executive Director of the Star Island Corporation, a nonprofit religious and educational conference center operating summer conferences on Star Island, one of the historic Isles of Shoals. Lockwood is currently executive director of the nonprofit Concord Area Trust for Community Housing (CATCH). She was acclaimed as one of the New Hampshire Union-Leader’s "Forty Under Forty" state leaders, and has been dedicated to supporting affordable housing in the Granite State since she joined CATCH in 1992. Lockwood serves as director for the Northern New England Housing Investment Fund and is vice president for the National Neighborhood Housing Investment Network and a member of the NeighborWorks America Multi-Family Asset Management Committee.

Amy Lockwood, Exec Director, Star Island Corporation / Courtesy PhotoLockwood majored in art history at Oberlin College in Ohio and has held a long-standing interest in architecture. A member of the United Church of Christ, she has been involved in numerous community improvement projects through her church, including work with Habitat for Humanity.

She is a talented communicator with broad-based experience in construction, infrastructure and maintenance of historic buildings. Her long family history of involvement with religious and educational conference centers has informed her deep understanding of the importance of simplicity and renewal in fulfilling Star Island’s mission and preserving its history."

Lockwood, who assumes her new position on January 2, 2006, succeeds Paul D. Jennings as Executive Director of the Star Island Corporation. Jennings completes more than six years of service as Executive Director to the Star Island Corporation following a long and notable career in education, most recently as Superintendent of Schools in Williamstown, MA. Jennings, and his wife, Lisa, have been conference leaders, children’s program staff, and volunteers over a continuing 24 year association with Star Island. Irene Bush, President of the Star Island Corporation, in wishing Jennings well at his retirement celebration said, "Paul has helped ensure Star a safer, more efficient and economical future. Thanks to him, our planning process is solid and our future is bright."
