HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #162
The USS Parche (July 24 1943) was among 18 subs launched at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard that year. An astonishing 34 launched in 1944. Parche went on to be one of the most highly decorated subs of the Pacific Fleet earning five battle stars in six war missions. It was scrapped in 1970, but her coning tower and bridge are enshrined at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
