USS Constellation Confusion |
Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #113
Scrubbed and painted the USS Constellation lies in a quay in the Portsmouth Navy Yard in 1884. Local historians long attributed this as the 1797 vessel, the original ship in the US Navy. But modern research shows there was another Constellation built in 1854 after the original was broken up. This ship was restored in 1999 resides in Baltimore.
