Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #25

A large wooden lighthouse appeared in 1771 under British rule and was replaced in 1804 by this octagonal tower that originally rose 80 feet. That version was replaced in 1877 by the black cast iron lighthouse – now painted white – that stands at the entrance to the harbor at New Castle. (Click for full pic)
