Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #49
With the city streets again torn up, this photo seems an apt tribute. What can
be accomplished rapidly today with a small crew and a backhoe, once took 100 men
with picks and shovels. This 1890s-era group posed on Pleasant Street in front
of old Unitarian Church (erected 1807) -- now gone the way of these hardworking
Portsmouth laborers.
