HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #146
The elegant circular staircase of the John Peirce Mansion (1799) on Court Street survives. But the curved settee built to fit the niche at the bottom of the stairs is in the Winterthur Museum. Now owned by the Middle Street Baptist Church, the Peirce Mansion was moved back from the road and adapted for church use half a century ago.
