Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #58

While the surrounding buildings have been altered in the last century, you will scarcely see a change in the Portsmouth Athenaeum today from this 1905 rainy day photo. The building was already a century old then. It became a private library in 1823 – back before public libraries. It remains the meeting hub for those interested in Portsmouth history.
