Fire Engine 1913Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #15

This early 1913 action shot occurred by chance while the photographer was covering a parade. The fire bell sounded just as the military band began. The horses stepped into the quick hitch. The boiler was fired. Then Engine No. 3 rushed onto Congress Street just ahead of the marching band as throngs looked on.
