Be thankful that you do not live in 1890. Novocain was unknown to Dr. Sylvester F.A. Pickering. Laughing gas was available in the next room for major surgery. But sanitation was minimal and the treadle-powered drill was agonizingly slow and unsteady. Worst, there was no waiting room. (Click for full pic)
