Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #63
Last year NH’s only offshore lighthouse was cracked and in danger of collapse. This year the 1859 brick tower on White Island has been restored, thanks to a dedicated team of 7th graders from North Hampton. The "Lighthouse Kids" are still raising funds to fully match a $250,000 federal grant. This summer over 1,000 bricks were replaced, the crack sealed, the spiral staircase repainted making White almost as good as it was in this photo.
