HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #40
So many old colonials survive in Portsmouth that we forget how many we have lost. The Brewster-Hill house once stood proudly on the southwest corner of Hanover and Vaughan streets. A massive and beautifully detailed house, it fell even before the urban renewal that destroyed much of the neighborhood there. It fell around 1904 to make way for a "modern" telephone exchange company.
