Portsmouth’s main street never looked better than it did around 1870. For a while the colonial, post-Revolutionary and Victorian structures came together in Harmony. Dramatic shade trees, small downtown hotels, grand residences and shopkeepers living above their own stores made for a neighborly city. (click for full image)
