Victorian boy
Bonus photo

We could not resist buying this photo on eBay recently. It was taken by Portsmouth’s Lafayette V. Newell (or at his studio) and shows a young boy dressed as fine as a Catholic cardinal. We know nothing about the Victorian practice of dressing young boys, but pass along the photo in full. Click for a color version just slightly larger than the original card with gold trim and scalloped edges.
