Peter Agrafiotis, painter, writer and former magazine publisher announces the release of his new book This Is Not My Bathing Suit, a novel about contemporary artists and fishermen. The novel is a satire on the arts and pop culture, but also on life in a small New England coastal city. SPECIAL EVENT. Peter will be hosting a book launch party at Book and Bar in Market Square, Portsmouth, to celebrate the release of his novel. The date and time are Friday, November 7thfrom6 to 8 p.m.

Carl Belz, former editor-in-chief of Art New England Magazine, called the narrative, “A laugh-laced romp through our postmodern art world dedicated to spectacle and entertainment.”           

This is not my Bathing SuitThe novel focuses on reluctant reporter for a local tabloid, Alex Perkins who covers an outrage-rousing beachfront performance piece, The event ends in the arrest of the artist, a young woman wearing nothing but a painted-on bathing suit. Perkins finds himself deeply immersed in her New York art scene comprise of self-absorbed egoists. Much of the action in this clash of cultures takes place off-shore, alternately on a gleaming racing yacht and an aged fishing vessel.  The characters are all distinct individuals committed to advancing their own points of view, regardless of popular opinion.

Agrafiotis published CLUE – “America’s only vacation magazine that’s sarcastic.” His satires about Tatnic, Maine earned him the praise of storytellers of renown, including award-winning authors Nicholson Baker, Ann Beattie, Richard Ford, and Alison Lurie and comic legend Bob Elliott of Bob and Ray.

 Agrafiotis soldCLUEto divide his time between writing and painting.  He has had a dozen one-man shows, including exhibitions is New York and Boston. His paintings hang in over 100 public, corporate, and private collections. His work has been nominated four times for awards at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York.
