Like its NH neighbor, the town of Newbury was settled in the early 1600s and evolved into a successful seaport before the Revolution. Seacoast NH residents are additionally fortunate to live wedged between two other scenic seashores – the North South of Massachusetts and South Coast Maine. New Hampshire's rarely forget that, in colonial times, both our neighbors, north and south, were part of the puritanical Massachusetts Bay Colony. Today, the extended shoreline is surprisingly unspoiled despite its increasing popularity with tourists.

Just 20 minutes from Portsmouth, Newburyport is a bustling high tech community. Yet its grand homes, restored brick warehouses and nearby natural preserve at Plum Island make for a superb holiday destination. Piscataqua history is closely tied to this region, the last major coastal stop on the old Post Road from Boston.
